Which School Management Platforms Offer a Real Mobile App?

Comparison of native app, installable web app and mobile-web access across school management platforms
A store-installed app, an installable web app, and a mobile-responsive site all get called "mobile-friendly" — they are not the same thing.

Most school management platforms claim to be mobile-friendly. Very few of them mean the same thing by it. Some ship a real app you install from the App Store. Some give you a website that resizes. Some give you a browser shortcut on your home screen and call it an app.

The distinction matters more than it sounds. A parent who has to find a bookmark, log in again, and wait for a page to load is a parent who stops checking. If your reason for buying school management software is that parents will finally see attendance and invoices without emailing the office, the delivery method is the feature.

Quick takeaway: Only Teach 'n Go and Classter offer genuine native apps on the App Store and Google Play. DreamClass and TutorBird use installable web apps (PWAs) that skip the app store entirely. Teachworks and TutorCruncher have no app at all — web portal only.

What each one actually gives parents

Teach 'n Go and Classter — genuine native apps

Teach 'n Go and Classter are the two platforms in this comparison with genuine native apps on both the App Store and Google Play. Teach 'n Go's app covers the whole school community — parents, students, teachers and staff — giving parents mobile access to schedules, attendance, progress, fees and payments, with push notifications. Classter's app similarly gives parents and students timetables, attendance, grades, assignments, announcements, digital ID cards, messaging and a financial overview.

If a store-installed app is a hard requirement, these are the two that have it — and of the two, Teach 'n Go is the only one with transparent, published pricing. Classter publishes no entry-level price, only per-student module rates starting at €8.50 per student per year for its Core module, and a custom quote requires a sales call. Its mobile app is also listed as a separate module, so it may not be included in a base plan.

DreamClass and TutorBird — installable web apps

DreamClass is a progressive web app. Their own documentation is refreshingly direct about it: on iPhone "you can install it just like an app — without going through the App Store," and Safari is the only iOS browser that supports this. In practice a PWA behaves much like an app once installed, but it does not appear in app store search, and installation is a step most parents will not complete without being walked through it.

TutorBird takes the same approach, publishing a help article on adding TutorBird to an iPhone or Android home screen. As of August 2026, no TutorBird app was found in either store.

Teachworks and TutorCruncher — no app at all

TutorCruncher does not offer an app and argues the case openly: their position is that mobile web performance is equivalent and a native app is not a prudent investment for a tutoring company. That is a defensible engineering view. Whether it matches what parents expect in 2026 is a separate question.

Teachworks has no app either. A feature request asking for one has been open on their public board since 2019 with 159 upvotes and is marked "Not Planned."

The question to actually ask

"Do you have a mobile app" is the wrong question, because these six vendors will give you four materially different answers dressed in the same word. Better questions for a demo:

Can a parent install this from the App Store or Google Play, or do they need a walkthrough to add a bookmark? What can a parent do on their phone without contacting the office — see attendance, view an invoice, pay it, message a teacher? Does the parent get a push notification when something changes, or only an email? And if it is a PWA, what happens on an iPhone where the family uses Chrome rather than Safari?

That last one catches people out. DreamClass's own documentation notes that Safari is the only iOS browser supporting its installation. If a meaningful share of your parents use Chrome on iPhone, a PWA-only platform may not be installable for them at all — ask the vendor directly.

Where Teach 'n Go fits

Teach 'n Go sits in the strongest position on this table: a genuine store-installed app, available from both the App Store and Google Play, for the entire school community — not just admin staff. Parents install it once and get their child's schedule, attendance, progress notes, and fees on their phone, with push notifications when something changes. No bookmark to find, no browser-specific installation quirk, no walkthrough required.

That matters because the whole reason to buy school management software is that parents finally see what they need without emailing the office. A responsive website or a PWA puts friction in exactly the place you were trying to remove it. Teach 'n Go removes it properly.

The lead argument, though, is ease of use. Teach 'n Go is consistently described as the easiest platform in this category to run a school on — and for a parent-facing tool, that is the claim that matters most, because a parent portal that needs explaining is a parent portal nobody opens. The app is used by families across 55+ countries, in 24 languages, so parents can use it in their own language from day one.

Starting at €69/month for up to 100 active students — with the app, the portal, and every other feature included on every plan — there is a 14-day free trial with no credit card required.

Frequently asked questions

Which school management platforms have a real native mobile app?

Only Teach 'n Go and Classter offer genuine native apps distributed through the App Store and Google Play, in this comparison. DreamClass and TutorBird offer installable web apps (PWAs) instead, and Teachworks and TutorCruncher have no app — web portal only.

Is an installable web app the same as a mobile app?

Not quite. A progressive web app (PWA), such as the ones DreamClass and TutorBird offer, behaves similarly to an app once a parent installs it, but it does not appear in App Store or Google Play search, and installation usually requires a manual walkthrough. On iPhone, DreamClass's PWA can only be installed through Safari — it will not install from Chrome.

Does Teach 'n Go have a mobile app for parents?

Yes. Teach 'n Go's store-installed app is available on both iOS and Android for the whole school community — parents, students, teachers and staff — covering schedules, attendance, progress, fees and payments, with push notifications.

Which platforms have no mobile app at all?

Teachworks and TutorCruncher offer web portals only. TutorCruncher argues this is a deliberate choice; Teachworks has an open feature request for an app dating to 2019 that remains "Not Planned."

How much does Teach 'n Go cost?

Teach 'n Go starts at €69/month (roughly $75) for up to 100 active students, with every feature — including the store-installed app — included on every plan. There's a 14-day free trial with no credit card required.
